GUARDIANSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
In order for us to give our dogs the best possible life, it is important for us to limit how many dogs we keep in our home. However, to be a breeder of quality dogs we need to continue, evaluate, and add quality bloodlines into our breeding program. We like to keep a few of our pick puppies to monitor their growth and development, and some of these puppies will eventually fit into our breeding program – we prefer to place these pick puppies in guardian homes. Big kennels with dozens of dogs is not even an option for us.
We are giving the puppy to the guardian family to raise and love and keep as a member of their family. This program is an opportunity for local families to own one of the best Bernedoodles available without paying for it. We will also provide our guardian families with discounts on boarding your guardian dog with us at DoodlesFarmCo.
In order to become a guardian family, you must fill out the GUARDIANSHIP OPPORTUNITIES APPLICATION be approved as a guardian family and agree to abide by our contract.
If you are not willing to part with your guardian dog(s) for an extended period of time, this program is not for you.
About our guardian FEMALES. Once the dog is of age (between 18-24 months old), ready to be bred (typically on her second or third heat cycle) and passed all of her health testing, we will have her over for a few days during the breeding process. After she is bred, she will return back to her guardian family who will take care of her during her pregnancy. She will then come back to us a week before her due date to whelp her litter and stay with us until the puppies’ Pick-Up Day (when pups are 8 weeks old). Once old enough, female dogs will spend at least 8-9 weeks per year in our care to whelp, wean and raise their puppies. Guardians must be able to detect a heat cycle (while notifying us on the first day any signs of each cycle is seen) and keep females away from intact male dogs during this time. Females will retire after having 3-4 litters. Once retired, the female will be spayed at our cost and continue to live for the rest of her life with her guardian family.
About our guardian MALES. Once the dog is of age, has passed all of his health testing, and is ready to breed when sexual maturity has been reached, we will borrow the dog for breeding for 1-3 days at a time, several times per year. Males will typically sire around 3-6 litters per year. Guardians must be able to keep male dogs away from intact female dogs in heat. Males will retire at around 5-7 years old. Once retired, the male will be neutered at our cost and continue to live for the rest of his life with his guardian family.
DoodlesFarmCo retains legal ownership of the dog until its retirement from our program when the dog is spayed or neutered at our cost.
